The election of 2010 truly proved that every vote counts. Now the 2012 election is shaping up to be one of the closet elections in recent memory.

With control of the White House and Congress hanging in the balance, and education and local public safety funding under attack, right-wing special interests are pouring record amounts of money into brutal attack ads designed to mislead voters and drive down Democratic turnout on November 6th.

I know you agree that we can’t let the Republicans take power and turn back the clock to the failed policies that seriously harmed working-class families in California and plunged our economy into crisis.

Your vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union. In my life time, people stood in unmovable lines. They had to pass a so-called literacy test, pay a poll tax. Men and Women were asked to count the number of bubbles in a bar of soap. People were asked to count the number of jellybeans in a jar, all to keep them from casting their ballot. Today it is unbelievable that there are Republican officials that are trying to stop some people from voting. They are changing the rules, cutting polling hours and imposing a requirement intended to suppress the vote. The Republican leader in the Pennsylvania House even bragged that his state’s new voter ID law is going to allow Governor Romney to win his state. Similar efforts have been made in Texas, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia and South Carolina.

Too many people have struggled, suffered and died to make it possible for every American to exercise their right to vote. We have come too far together to ever turn back. So, Democrats, we must not be silent, we must stand up and speak out!

The situation is urgent…our nation cannot afford a future directed by a Republican- controlled White House and Congress.

Please remember to Vote on November 6th !!!!

President’s Message by Sylvia Moore, November 2015

Co-authored by Democratic Assemblymembers Lorena Gonzalez, Luis Alejo and Kevin McCarty, and championed by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, the “California Motor Voter […]

Twenty fourteen marks yet another year where we Democrats are wringing our hands over whether enough of our supporters will turn out to vote this November. According to FairVote.org, voter turnout is about 60% in presidential elections, but plummets to about 40% in midterm elections. Why is it that every off-year election sees a precipitous […]
